Ashes Hopefuls

With just 7 hours until the start of the Ashes series down under, two Stalbridge cricketers have pinned their hopes on 2 English batsmen.

On Saturday 18th November at roughly 12.35am, a drunken debate was started at a local pub. Although many subjects were discussed, Marcus Trescothick returning home, Saj Mahmoods wayward bowling and whether it would be Monty Panesar or Ashley Giles to provide the spin option, the biggest talking point was who would be England's leading run scorer in the series.  Whilst i personally believe Andrew Strauss would top the runs list at the end of the series, Jon Forshaw and Andy Dike had other ideas. In fact, they were so stuck on their ideas, that they managed to put a wager on it.

Jon Forshaw didn't need much time to suggest Kevin Pietersen would be top run scorer (But then, Jon does support Hampshire) whilst Andy Dike strongly felt that Ian Bell would end the series on top. As you can see from the picture below, both were in good spirits when they confirmed the bet was on.

and Richard Brown gave it the thumbs up!!!

Please check back here to see the status of the fortunes between KP and Ian Bell, test by test.
