Cricket Club Annual Dinner & Presentation Evening

Last night the Annual Cricket Club Dinner at the Village hall, Stalbridge, brought players, past and present, sponsors and supporters together to celebrate the 2006 cricket season. A night which is very much looked forward to each year.

This year saw Hayden Williams present a seasonal review on all sides and the telling of several jokes and stories, one of which has been known to cause a sore point (when sat down). This year we had many different awards, along with the usual exciting raffle that everyone loves and also a ''Spot the Ball'' contest that got a few of the younger lads to dip their hands into their pockets on a few occasions, or Reece Wilson on 7 i think!! The eventual winner of the ''Spot the Ball'' didn't come along until late in the evening and this was Kate Rose, who won herself a 12 pack of Stella Artois and a box of chocolates.

The award winners were as follows:

1st XI player of the year: Mark (Fred) Chant

2nd XI player of the year: Andy (Humpty)Hoskins

2nd XI fielding award: James Miller

2nd XI catch of the year: Harry Dike

Sunday XI player of the year: Simon (Smiley) Miles

Young player of the year: Ashley Clarke

Clubman of the year: Andy Hoskins

Once the awards were dished out, it was time to get onto the main event of the evening, the disco, where some interesting dancing by certain members of the club. Leading the way with an array of batting strokes and some twisting and turning was William and Harry Dike, both who put younger members who were on the dance floor to shame. Reece Wilson made numerous requests and Colin Moore lit the dance floor dancing along to James Brown's ''Sex Machine''.

When the evening came to an end, it was only just starting for many and a certain few ended up getting home at about 3.30am. Rumor has it, that at 6pm on the Sunday certain personnel were still suffering from the night before, some more than others Mr Colin Moore!!!
