Events 2010

Quiz Night

The Cricket Club will be holding a quiz night at the Stalbridge Royal British Legion on Sunday 14th March commencing at 8pm. £5.00 per team of 4.

Fundraising Swimarathon

This year we are entering teams in the Blackmore Vale Lions Club charity swimarathon to raise money for both the Club and for a number of local charities. The event takes place on 27/28th March at Clayesmore Sports Centre, and involves each swimmer in a team of 6 swimming lengths in relay for an hour. At this stage Ian Moore and Chris Hedges are both running teams, and we’re hoping to raise a third team so that we can really make it a worthwhile fundraising effort. Please support our teams by sponsoring team members if possible, or volunteering to swim if you are able. For more details contact Colin Moore (colin@stalbridgecc.co.uk), Ian (01963 362703) or Chris (07779 077324).

Pre-Season ‘CricketForce’ Sunday 11th April

A pre-season working party under the banner of the ECB & Nat West ‘CricketForce’ campaign. Join in to help YOUR Club get ready for the season so you can enjoy your cricket in 2010. Starting at 10.00am in the Park, we need as many volunteers as possible to get all the necessary jobs done, such as putting up the nets on their frames, painting the sightscreens and scorebox, and preparing the pitch for the season. PLEASE get involved by joining in the pre-season preparations – the more people that help out the less time it will take for us all – it needs to be a team effort!

Saturday 3rd XI Cricket

For those of you who may not know, this year we have entered a 3rd XI in the Dorset Saturday League. This is a major development for the Club – it’s the first time in our long history that we will be fielding three teams on a Saturday – and we hope the new team will compliment our existing line-up of 1st XI, 2nd XI and Sunday teams. The team will be run by Phil Calcott, and the aim is for the side to run as a development XI in which young players can make their first appearances for the club at senior level alongside a few more experienced players. This means that there will be far more opportunities for members to play Saturday league cricket in 2010, and in particular there will now be a senior side in which players from our junior section can readily get involved, especially any former under-15s who are now too old for the junior leagues.

If you would like to get involved, please come along to pre-season nets, or for more information contact Phil (phil.c@tinyworld.co.uk) or Colin (colin@stalbridgecc.co.uk).

SCC Lotto Bonus Ball

Over recent years this has been a major and extremely vital source of fundraising for the Club. However, there are now some spare numbers that we need to fill if it is to continue to run effectively. For those who may not know, you can play by paying £1 per week for a number between 1 & 49. Each week, the person holding the number matching that which is drawn out as the Bonus Ball in the National Lottery wins £25.00, with the rest of the money raised going to the Club. It’s a good way to support the Club, with the chance of also winning a few quid back!

Simon Miles organises the Bonus Ball lottery for the Club, so if you are able to buy a number or know somebody who is, contact Smiley on 07977110895 or at simon@stalbridgecc.co.uk

That’s about all the news for the moment. We hope you’ll get involved in the above events as we approach the 2010 cricket season – not long now until 'summer' is here again!!
