Stalbridge Cricket Club 1st XI v Compton House 1st XI on Sat 04 Jun 2022 at 13:30
Stalbridge Cricket Club Won by 93 runs

Match report To most people's surprise, the weather had held off apart from a brief downpour on Friday afternoon. Having won the toss again, we decided to play to our strengths and bat first. This initially seemed like it might've been the wrong decision as we quickly fell to 8-2 in the fourth over, with Ferg and George both bowled. Thankfully, the recovery was initiated by Stu and Jimmer, who both batted watchfully as they rebuilt the innings. At drinks, we were in the much healthier position of 101-2 from 22 overs, and were well set for the second half of the innings. Jimmer played the anchor role as Stu started to cut loose and the scoreboard started moving pretty quickly. Their superb partnership of 178 had carried us to 186 when Jimmer was out looking to increase the run rate further, as he was LBW for 43. Stu and Wiz added 52 in 6 overs for the fourth wicket before Stu was finally dismissed, out LBW for an excellent 155, including 17 x 4s and 5 x 6s. Wiz was bowled for 16 and Si and Dikey ended the innings scrambling 1s and 2s to lead us to our final score of 259-5, a great effort, especially considering the two early wickets lost.

A weary Stu sent down a ropey first over which went for 12! After this though, we managed to gain control, with Steve continuing his good form, picking up the first two wickets, both clean bowled. Stu picked up the third, also bowled, leaving them 19-3 in the fifth over. A partnership of 40 followed, although without them really threatening to maintain the required run rate, with Si eventually breaking through as the number 3 dragged a wide one back on to his stumps. Howie replaced Steve and took the next wicket, as a short ball was edged to Jimmer in a wide slip position, leaving the score at 90-5 at the half-way point. Compton continued to accumulate runs and the sixth wicket partnership of 50 was their highest of the innings, until Dikey came on down the hill and picked up a wicket in his second over. The final few wickets fell fairly quickly after this point, with Fordy picking up one, and Dikey finishing with a very tidy 4-9 from 5 overs, thanks to two good catches from Ferg on the boundary, and another slip catch from Jimmer to round things off. Compton House all out for 166 from 37 overs and another good 20 points on the board.
