Match report The Pirates won their first match with an excellent all-round performance! We chatted at the start about repeating their good bowling and fielding performance from the Marnhull game but trying to improve the batting. This they did, taking care not to give their wickets away and ending up on 276-2. Most batters chipped in with some runs and James Stockley top-scored making 11, including two cracking 4s.
The bowlers didn't disappoint. They started well, and despite a little wobble in the middle of the innings when there were a few wides and one of the stronger Mere batters got going, all the bowlers finished well, especially Cam Woodhouse, Matt Williams, Joe Gartell and James Stockley, who together bowled the last 4 overs for only 10 runs. Joe Gartell bowled particularly well, his last two overs being a maiden and a wicket maiden, and he was named Star-of-the-Week. Well done all of you!!
