Match report Gutting! A final ball loss against our old rivals was tough to take, but it was a good game on a beautiful day so it wasn't all bad!

Winning the toss on a scorcher was a good start, but runs were hard to come by against a bowling attack that was big on experience and accuracy and ideally suited to the pitch conditions. Despite a low run rate, the openers built a start that kept wickets in hand, enabling Eddie Stevens (39), Kevin Forsey (26) and Will Trevis (17) to accelerate the innings, finishing at tea on 161-6.

Our bowlers started reasonably well, but Marnhull's Chris Ralph and Barry Lewis were compiling a winning innings without too much trouble until the wickets started to fall. The key wicket was that of former Dorset Minor Counties Captain Lewis, who was controlling events until clean bowled by leg-spinner Jamie Anderson-Deas. From then, tight bowling by Henry Chant, Kevin Forsey and Jordan Nettley dragged the run rate down and Stalbridge back into the match.

It was only some lower order hitting and the fact that, needing one to win off the last ball, Marnhull had two fleet-footed young batters who were able to scramble the winning leg-bye that consigned the 3rd XI to it's first loss of the season.

Richie Brown was inconsolable, and his mood was not improved when his car broke down in the car park! What a day...
