Match report A good home win for the Pirates!

Batting first, Will Guppy and Matt Williams made a solid start to take us to 220-1, followed by a productive partnership of 23 from George Perkins and Will Cundy. Thereafter the boys batted sensibly throughout the rest of innings, taking singles and allowing extras to contribute. The innings finished on 261-4, not a huge total but defendable with good bowling and fielding.

The side were clearly up for the challenge! Crisp fielding backed up the good accurate bowling from the opening seam attack of Will G and Matt W, producing the pressure that soon forced some rash shots with the inevitable loss of wickets. George P, Will C, Max T and Henry M all bowled well, as the wickets started to tumble and Marnhull fell further behind the rate. George P claimed 4 victims while Max and Matt W took 2 apiece.

In a low scoring game, this win was testament to the application and teamwork of the boys, particularly in the field. Applied batting, accurate fielding with creditably few extras from the bowlers (notable for U11s at this level) and an excellent team spirit led to a good competitive game of cricket. The final note should perhaps go to the quiet yet highly competent glove work of Toby who had an excellent game behind the stumps.
