Stalbridge Cricket Club Development XI v Kingston Lacy on Sat 29 Jun 2019 at 1:30pm
Stalbridge Cricket Club Lost by 6 wickets
Match report
An agonising defeat for the 2's who got close to that first win of the season, really pushing Kingston Lacy. After having a withdrawal for illness, young Dom Coleman stepped up to make his senior debut with great enthusiasm giving the team 10 men to go onto the field with.
Batting first, the openers put together a big 56-run partnership for the first wicket (R Payne 39 & F Wingate-Saul 12) laying a foundation for the middle order to take advantage of. Enter S Forshaw (66*) and M Coleman (43*) who plundered the runs and made short work of the bowling attack. This resulted in the biggest score of the season for the 2's, hopefully signalling a turnaround in fortunes with the bat, as they amassed 185 and batted out the overs.
In the field things got off to an inauspicious start with B Pattle (3-0-10-0) getting injured early. Nonetheless with wickets falling relatively regularly things were tight when Kingston Lacy were 110/3 after 20, S Forshaw going most of the damage (7-0-28-2). Unfortunately, things just got away from the side a little after that, unable to keep getting breakthroughs. Nonetheless, when Kingston Lacy crawled over the line five overs from time, the 2's had taken another wicket, resulting in a 7pt haul for the weekend - our joint best so far - and a close game. Hopefully we can go that step further next week, it is coming!
Special thanks to Rob Payne for captaining again these last two weeks.
