Match report Well, what a game that was with Stalbridge getting a seasons best 8pts.
Arriving in Corfe to find the pitch somewhat grassy and soft Stalbridge elected to field on a pitch that could only hope to get better as the game progressed. Things got off to a poor start with a couple of chances going down and Stalbridge struggling to contain the runs, although B. Pattle (5-0-23-0) and A. Moore (7-2-34-0) bowled very tight spells to stop the game getting away. After a mammoth opening stand of 195 things began to turn Stalbridge’s way at last after a smart run-out from a direct hit by R. Payne. Wickets from the skipper (8-1-49-1), A. Dike (8-0-75-1) and S. Forshaw (5-0-32-2) stifled Corfe’s late hitting and produced three bowling points.
Things begun with the bat as they had with the ball, badly. However, after two wickets in the opening over S. Forshaw (88*) and D. Mckinnon (39) put on 93 for the third wicket in just sixteen overs. Progress continued with A. Dike (34) and S. Forshaw putting on 97 for the fourth wicket to bring the score to 190/4. Unfortunately, despite some excellent stroke play in the last five overs, including a lovely leg glance from E. Pattle (4*), Stalbridge fell short of the target. Perhaps some accurate middle over bowling killing our momentum.
Despite the defeat, we come away with 8pts, a new high score for the season and less than ten extras off the bowlers, making it a brilliant all around effort. Big home game next week vs Dorchester.
