Stalbridge Cricket Club Development XI v Dorchester 2nd XI on Sat 27 Jul 2019 at 1:30pm
Stalbridge Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets
Match report
Well, another week and another top effort from a young team.
After the Bridge were put in by Dorchester things looked to be off to a bad start, with the team slumping to 14/2. However, three Geoffrey Boycott impersonators ably supported A Dike (89*) in order to rebuild the innings. With the team going from 14/2 to 37/3 (J Guthrie 4 from 28), to 75/4 (J Forsey 9 from 37) followed by a flurry of quick wickets that was then halted by a spirited knock from E Pattle (3 from 22 balls), as Stalbridge went on to post 136/8 from our 40 overs. This was never likely to be enough, but it made for a competitive game. The innings break proved to be a disaster for the 2's though, with D Mckinnon withdrawing due to illness, and T Jeans unable to keep wicket due to another injury leading to J Forsey ending up behind the stumps.
Knowing that quick wickets were on the agenda the skipper (4-0-29-1) knocked over their opener for 0 in the first over. Unfortunately, despite having Dorchester 2/1 after a couple of over, things then got away from Stalbridge due to some good batting and a succession of dropped catches, notably two drops off of A Dike (4-0-40-1) who definitely deserved better figures, getting a deserved wicket with a big turner from outside the off-stump. Sadly, Dorchester polished off the runs in 15 overs, leading to a heavy defeat. A shout-out to Oscar White for making his senior debut and fielding excellently (which is more than can be said for most).
Thanks again to H Dike for umpiring and to G Kerr-Jones for scoring.
No game next week, so we move on to play Hamworthy Recreation at home on August 10th.
