Match report A tough away day at Cheselbourne for the Dev XI. After winning the toss and electing to bat on an artificial wicket the wickets fell far to regularly in the top order, with the one notable contribution coming from Jamie A-D (19), leaving the team in trouble at 65/5. Superb grit and some excellent counter-attacking by the lower order, including a fantastic 33 from Toby Jeans and a punchy 11* from Ben Pattle guided Stalbridge to 118.
Superb opening spells from Rob Payne (8-0-26-1) and Ben Pattle (8-2-9-1) kept things tight as Stalbridge set about defending a low total and at the halfway stage Cheselbourne were only at 65/2. Stalbridge were, however, guilty of dropping several chances, which ultimately proved costly defending a total that they would always manage to polish of if they batted the overs. The only other wicket fell to the captain (7-1-21-1), although C. Mckinnon (5-1-20-0) bowled an exceptionally good spell with nothing going to hand. Cheselbourne trickled over the line in the 35th over.
A really good effort from the Dev XI, who can count themselves unlucky. An additional 20 or so runs and it might have been their day.
