Stalbridge Cricket Club Development XI v Swanage 3rd XI on Sat 05 Sep 2020 at 1.30pm
Stalbridge Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets

Match report A frustrating day for all involved as the Development XI snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in a high scoring encounter against a relatively strong Swanage side.
After being put in by the opposition things got off to a solid start with Jamie A-D (22) helping to put on an opening stand of 37. Swanage pegged Stalbridge back in the early middle overs, leaving the Development XI 62/3 in the 17th over. Any doubts of a collapse were quickly put to bed, however, when the skip (22) and vice-captain Rob Payne (97*) ground the opposition down with a partnership of 80 for the 4th wicket. coming in at 142/4 was the perfect foundation for the Development Team's big hitter, Toby Jeans (22 as well) to come in an reek havoc upon the Swanage attack. A lightening partnership of 50 in just five overs, followed by some capable hitting from Kev Forsey (23*) set up a massive 245 for Swanage to chase.
In a day of two halves, Stalbridge will be disappointed with their opening efforts in the field, despite two early wickets from Ben Pattle (6-0-2-39) which had Swanage 22/2 at the five. A long wait for the third wicket came with Stalbridge still well in the game, the captain (8-1-33-1) taking their number four for 37 and reducing Swanage to 81/3. A good holding role was provided by Oscar White (6-0-34-0), who certainly deserved a wicket for his efforts, however, it was to be the 31st over when Freddie Fowles (5-0-37-1) finally removed their other opener. Additional wickets for Rob Payne (5.3-0-24-1) and Ed Pattle (4-0-31-1) helped to peg Swanage back and at one stage the game looked to be swinging in Stalbridge's favour. Coming off a short run due to a dodgy ankle, Rob Payne then no-balled himself out of the attack, which seemed to give encouragement to the opposition who quickly polished off the 20 required from the last 3.
Lots of positives to take, especially in the batting, and with some better fielding and bowling (which Stalbridge usually excel at) it would have been the Development XI celebrating a victory!
A thanks also to Harry Lewis for stepping in for Doug when he was taken ill. The first of many senior games for him.
