Match report Our final game of the season on the Bank Holiday weekend saw us once again missing key players for a variety of reasons, but still with more than enough to be competitive. The Hamworthy skipper called wrong and so we chose to bat with the aim of posting something defendable, without the pressure of a run chase. Unfortunately things did not go to plan, and we soon found ourselves 29-5 after 13 overs. This was mainly down to good bowling rather than poor batting, and a very avoidable run out. Si (40) and Steve (10) then partially recovered the situation with a partnership of 49, with runs flowing fairly easily, but Si was bowled in the first over after drinks and Steve followed in the next over as we fell to 81-7 and looked like we might struggle to reach three figures. However, an excellent innings from Rob Payne (22), including a cover drive which was easily the shot of the day, along with 29 extras, allowed us to scrape to 118. This was clearly a below-par score on a wicket which actually came on to the bat very nicely, but it at least gave us something to bowl at.

A young Hamworthy opening pair was separated when Steve induced an edge from the left hander, which Colin gratefully accepted with the score on 15. Ben claimed the second wicket thanks to an excellent catch from brother Ed, throwing himself to his left at mid-on to take the catch at the second attempt. Frustratingly though, although bowlers' economy rates were good (especially Fordy, who bowled 4 maidens in a row at one point), we couldn't shift the other opener until it was too late. We picked up two further wickets, with Ed taking another catch off Jimmer, and Steve returning to bowl the opener with only 5 runs required for victory. In truth, a comfortable victory for Hamworthy, who although missing players themselves, clearly have a depth of young talent within their club. A special mention must go to Ed Pattle in only his second first team game, with 2* from 13 balls in support of Robbie, 1.4 tidy overs for only 3 runs, and a fantastic, committed performance in the field, saving a number of runs.

A mixed season in the end, with an excellent first half, where we picked up 6 wins and just one defeat against eventual league winners Puddletown (where we fell victim to the conditions), being somewhat let down by a second half in which we only picked up three further wins. This left us in a final league position of 4th out of 10 teams; by no means a disaster, but not a position that reflects the ability we have in our team. Nevertheless, it has been an enjoyable full season after last year's curtailed format, and a position to build on for next year. Thanks to everyone who has played and made themselves available on a consistent basis.
