Match report
On Saturday the Development XI suffered a frustrating away defeat to local rivals Marnhull. Having won a good toss and opted to bowl on a damp(ish) pitch, with a very sunny forecast ahead, they made the best possible start as the skipper (8-0-32-1) dismissed his opposite number with the first ball of the match. A very tidy opening spell from Ed Pattle (5-0-14-0 & 3-0-17-1) ensured that Marnhull were under a lot of pressure when the first bowling change came in the thirteenth over. Some regimented stuff in the middle-overs by Harry Forshaw (6-0-19-0) and Sam Foster (6-1-22-0) meant that Marnhull accrued just 104 by the 30-over mark. This seasons star with the ball continued his fine form, as Oscar White (8-0-32-2) nabbed some vital wickets and, by the time his spell finished, Marnhull were 111/3 with eight to play. A late wicket from Ed Pattle grabbed the Development XI another point, although the team were perhaps left to rue a couple of dropped chances that could have restricted Manrhull to a much lower total - they made 159.
In truly bizarre fashion the chase began exactly the same as the Marnhull innings with Matt Coleman being the recipient of a pearling yorker first ball of the innings. A stand of 28 between Cam Mckinnon (26) and Luke Hedditch (14) steadied the ship, and Cam continued to build with Dom Coleman (8), seeing the team to 52/2 at the halfway stage. On a pitch that was playing better all the time, Stalbridge looked to have set the game up for the middle order to chase it home, however, the big hitting never really arrived, with a massive collapse ensuing. There was, however, some good fight from the bowlers (who clearly didn't want to see their fine work wasted!) - in particular Ed Pattle (16) and Harry Forshaw (11), seeing Stalbridge into triple figures and a score of 107.
