Stalbridge Cricket Club Development XI v Kilmington & Stourton on Sat 18 Jul 2020 at 1.30pm
Stalbridge Cricket Club Won by 78 runs
Match report
It has been a long wait for some cricket in 2020, but what a way to start! A win and a fantastic performance from the Dev XI.
After winning the toss and electing to bat Stalbridge looked assured throughout the game, despite the loss of an early wicket. Colin (29) and Doug (51rtd), who made his first senior half-century, laid a fantastic platform from which the middle order could cash in. Rob (50 rtd) also went big, registering his first fifty of the season and both Matt (15) and Ed (18*) played well to turn a strong start into a very imposing 202. Two other highlights to note were a 76 run partnership between Rob and Doug for the fifth wicket and the first senior runs for Dom Coleman (1*), who looked well up to the task.
The second half of the game went even better as Stalbridge got off to an electric start with Rob (2-9) dislodging the openers. From then, wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals, with Cameron (1-21), the skip (1-18) and Matt (1-35) all contributing. With Kilmington & Stourton starting to build some momentum a brilliant second spell up the hill from Ben (4-11) ripped through the middle and lower, even breaking a bat, sending the visitors from 106-6 to 121-9. The innings was capped off by a brilliant full-stretch diving runout by Toby, who had just replaced Doug - off with a sore knee - behind the stumps, the ball having been fielded by Oscar, our substitute fielder!
It was a great performance and a good sign for the season to come!
