Stalbridge Cricket Club 1st XI v Portland Red Triangle on Sat 29 May 2021 at 1:30 pm
Stalbridge Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
We finally had a nice day of weather for the final fixture in May! Portland won the toss and unsurprisingly elected to bat on a decent looking wicket, but were kept in check throughout most of their innings thanks to a disciplined bowling and fielding display. Steve made the breakthrough with his very first ball, a gentle half-volley loosener which the opener managed to play all around, and then struck again in his next over with a plumb LBW. Stu bowled a good opening spell without reward, but their tight opening spells restricted the score to 30-2 after 12 overs. Dikey got in on the act with two wickets, including the important wicket of the Portland captain, thanks to a slip catch from Jimmer, plus the opener who had just injured his hamstring and could barely stand up! Howard also bowled well without reward, regularly hitting the block hole when Portland were looking to accelerate at the end of their innings. Stu returned for the final two overs down the hill and picked up late wickets, finishing with 4-18 from his 8 overs.
Portland's injury woes continued as the opening bowler injured his calf in his first over and came off after only two overs. Stu and Fergus put on 56 for the first wicket before Ferg was bowled for 11 by a quicker ball from Randell. Bushy also followed quickly after with the score on 59, before Jimmer and Stu took us relatively easily to our target after 32.2 overs. Jimmer finished on 46* with Stu hitting the final ball for 6 to bring up his century with the scores tied.
A very satisfying and comfortable win, with a local derby against Marnhull up next.
