Match report With Si away for the weekend, stand-in captain Stu eventually managed to locate the ground (although this could easily have been mistaken for a cow field with the length of the outfield) and then proceeded to win the toss and insert Witchampton. With scoring proving very difficult due to the slow outfield, 3 wickets were shared between the opening bowlers (Steve 2/12, Stu 1/10). Dikey and Ben then bowled impressive but unlucky spells, and it took the introduction of Jimmer to break the partnership and finish with figures of 3/27. It was then left to the Pattle brothers to finish the innings, sharing the last 4 wickets with Ed taking 2/8 on his 1st team debut and Ben 2/20. Witchampton 95 all out, however we knew this would be a challenge due to the conditions.

We started well, with Stu and Ferg putting on 24 for the first wicket before a leading edge from Ferg lobbed into the offside. Stu and Josh then put on another 22, with Stu trying to be positive and hit over the top with this being the only way to reach the boundary. However with the score at 46, Stu gave the home umpire the opportunity to impact the game by being hit on the pad and despite having advanced down the wicket this was good enough to be given out LBW for 32. Jimmer and Warney then put on a partnership of 20, however from this point we lost our last 7 wickets for 18 runs. The innings finished with a second dubious LBW decision against Jon, Stalbridge all out for 86 and finishing 9 runs short.

Positives to be taken from the bowling performance, but work to do on the batting side particularly when chasing low targets. Last game next week home to Hamworthy, let’s finish the season on a high!
