Match report It was nearly a triumphant end to the season for the Dev XI, who ended up just on the wrong side of an intense game up the Park.
Having lost the toss and been put into bat, things got off to a positive start. Fighting through a really good new ball spell, which featured several plays and misses and big away swingers, F. Wingate-Saul (42) and C. Mckinnon (12) put on 61 for the first wicket. Things looked like they might be faulting a little with a flurry of wickets before Ed Elston (49) and T. Lomas-Walker (5) steadied the ship and put on 38 for the 4th wicket. With momentum swinging back Stalbridge's way, the lower-middle order were able to accelerate the scoring, with the skipper (32) and Iain Lomas-Walker (15) pushing Stalbridge towards the 200 mark. Some good hitting and frantic running for the last wicket between L. Hedditch (12) and O. White (8*) ensured a competitive 221 was posted.
In the field things got off to a slightly loose start, before a series of economical overs from the skip (5-1-16-1 and 2.4-0-22-2) and I. Lomas-Walker (8-1-19-1) pinned Poole down. After the first breakthrough came in the eighth over, wickets fell quite regularly with F. Wingate-Saul (3-0-14-1 and 2-0-12-0), and Oscar White (7-0-52-3) doing most of the damage. Stalbridge continued to keep a lid on things with Josh Lewis (4-0-19-0) and L. Hedditch (5-0-29-0) keeping it tight. Some big hitting by the opposition captain left things poised going into the last couple of overs. Needing a run a ball, Poole found the boundary just enough to get themselves over the line with a ball to spare.
