Dorchester v Stalbridge Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 27 Jul 2019 at 1:00pm
Stalbridge Cricket Club Lost by 4 wickets
Match report
Dorchester won the toss and elected to bowl. Josh was bowled at the end of the first over, with Stu and Seb then taking the score to 22 before Stu and Fordy were both clean bowled in the 7th over to leave us 23-3. Seb and George then put together a good partnership, Seb in particular striking some powerful boundaries against Dorchester captain James Dunham. They took the score to 81 in the 20th over before George was well caught at short extra cover for 14, Seb falling not long after for an excellent 53. We continued to lose wickets with Si and H also going cheaply, but Robbie and Wiz began a partial recovery to take us to 107, Wizzer putting away the bad ball well to make 13, with 3 boundaries. Bradders (29) and Matt (17*) then both batted intelligently to put on 52 for the last wicket, striking plenty of boundaries but respecting the good balls to take us to a respectable, and at one point unexpected, total of 164.
We bowled 8 overs before tea, with Stu getting an early breakthrough by nicking their opener off to George who ably stood in behind the stumps for the day, leaving them 17-1 at the interval. Bradders took the new ball and bowled with superb control, claiming a wicket in his 8th over, to end with very tidy figures of 1-15 from his 10. H picked up the next wicket courtesy of a sharp slip catch from Fordy for 66-3, before Si picked up the next two wickets to leave them 116-5 after 33 overs. Wiz claimed a wicket with 21 needed for victory with Si taking the catch at cover, but Dorchester squeezed home in the 46th over with 4 wickets remaining.
A valiant effort once again against the team sitting top of the league and who have only lost twice all season, making them work hard for the victory.
