Stalbridge Cricket Club 1st XI v Hamworthy Recreation 1st XI on Sat 25 Jun 2022 at 13:30
Stalbridge Cricket Club Won by 38 runs

Match report Stand-in captain Steve won the toss and continued the trend of batting first. After a solid opening partnership of 64 between Warney and Jimmer, the first wicket fell in the 14th over when Jimmer was LBW for 26. This led to a cluster of wickets falling in quick succession, as Warney, George and Ferg quickly followed. Colin and Wiz rebuilt with a partnership of 24, but again a flurry of wickets meant we were 113 for 7 in the 32nd over. Wiz remained, and was joined by Ed, and both batted sensibly into the 41st over, giving us the chance of launching again towards the end of the innings. Ed launched two sixes over the leg-side and struck the ball more sweetly as his innings progressed. Wiz was well caught on the boundary for an excellent 39, which proved crucial, and Ed finished on 30* as Dom helped him add an unbroken 16 for the last wicket with some good running between the wickets.

After an opening maiden from Ben, standing in to open the bowling in the absence of others, a couple of shots from the Hamworthy openers showed their intent. However, both were dismissed with the score on 19 as Steve bowled one with a slower ball and Ed took a superb diving catch at extra-cover off Ben. The third wicket partnership took the score to 40 in the 12th over, before Steve struck again, as Warney took the catch at gully. Again, wickets fell in quick succession: Ed took the key wicket of the number 4, who looked like he could be dangerous in scoring 18, with Jimmer snaffling another slip catch for the season. Ed took another wicket courtesy of a catch from Colin at point, and there were 3 wickets for Dikey, including a good stumping from Dom. Suddenly it was 66-9 and the game was all but over. The last wicket partnership showed the rest of their batters where they had gone wrong in adding 69 for the final wicket, by far the highest partnership of the innings. Having said that, they never looked like they were really chasing the target, and Wiz claimed the last wicket with another catch for Jimmer. Hamworthy all out for 135, another 18 points in the bag, and next week's visit to Portland takes us to the halfway point of the season already. Man of the match performance from Ed Pattle, with two catches to go with his two wickets and 30*.
