Stalbridge Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
A much-changed side travelled to Portland, with a number of regulars unavailable. We won the toss and chose to take first use of a slightly dodgy looking (typical Portland) pitch. We started solidly enough, with a make-shift opening partnership of Wiz and Si adding 18, until a mix-up saw both of them at the bowler's end and Wiz was run out. Captain Run Out strikes again... Fordy made a breezy 30 at number 3 as the scoreboard started to pick up pace, and Si added 43 before he was bowled with the score at just over 100, shortly followed by Ed. Dikey and George then began to take the Portland attack apart, with a superb partnership of 127. George found the boundary with regular ease, toying with the bowling as he went to his maiden first-team 100; a fantastic innings. They both fell in quick succession as they pushed for late runs, and in the end we finished with a highly creditable 271-6 from our 45 overs.
Knowing we were slightly short of bowling, we needed to make a good start, and Ben obliged with two early wickets, thanks to a catch from Dom behind the stumps and one from Fordy at slip. Unfortunately that was as good as it got as the third wicket partnership flourished and broke the back of the chase, with the bowlers unable to bowl enough balls in consistent areas to build any pressure. Ed and Dikey bowled well, with Dikey claiming the other wicket to fall, but in truth this was one to forget.
Well batted GC - hopefully the first of many 100s to come!
