Portland Red Triangle 2nd XI v Stalbridge Cricket Club Development XI on Sat 16 Jul 2022 at 13:30
Stalbridge Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report The Dev XI headed to The Rock, with the stand-in in Captain desperately hoping to win the toss, to at least have the choice of baking in the sun chasing leather first or passing that opportunity to the home side. The pitch looked a typical Portland track (terrible looking, but likely to play pretty consistently) while the outfield was scorched dry and lightening quick.
With the toss duly won, Colin elected to bat.
Unfortunately, several of the SCC top order got set but failed to go on, with numerous scores in the teens. The damage was done by the PRT young opener and the wily 'King of the Rock' bowling his dibbly dobblies!
Only Harry Forshaw managed to sustain an innings, patiently batting his way to an excellent maiden senior 50, including a big six over long-on which nearly killed a local donkey. Well done Harold!
Harry eventually fell for 53, stumped as his eyes lit up searching for another donkey endangering maximum. With our No11 'Stonewall Brown' clocking in with his usual obdurate and well crafted 0 not out, the team finished on 152 all out - a below par total on a high scoring ground, but something to bowl at, at least.
In defending out total, the Dev XI started well, with fine accurate opening spells from Harrys Forshaw and Lewis. Harry Lewis deserves a particular mention for a very good six over spell of aggressive yet accurate and good length bowling, which included SCC's two wickets - both cleaned bowled with off-stump yorkers.
Thereafter, SCC struggled to maintain control as some inconsistent bowling and fielding failed to seriously threaten the steady progress made by two of PRT's older and more experienced batters, who guided the home side to a comfortable victory in 26 overs by simply picking off the bad balls.
All in all, a tough day, but still some positive performances and our young players continue to develop at senior cricket level. Another positive was that we didn't have to field first, as the PRT batting line-up featuring two of their normal 1st XI players could have made that a very sobering experience on such a hot day in good batting conditions.
