Stalbridge Cricket Club Lost by nine wickets

Match report After the jubilation of the week before it was a frustrating day at the office for the Dev XI.

Having won the toss (at last) and elected to bat, both openers fell cheaply. D. Coleman (11) was the unlucky recipient of a particularly good delivery from one of the league's standout bowlers (battling Stalbridge's H. Forshaw for the top spot) and Stalbridge slumped to 32/3. There was a partial rebuild between the Skipper (9) and B. Pattle (22, including a six into the Pavillion), before Witchampton's opener struck again and Stalbridge were 58/4. Despite an entertaining cameo from S Foster (13) and a couple of lovely flicks off the pads from H. Lewis (9*), wickets fell at regular intervals as Stalbridge failed to build any momentum and crashed to 118a.o.

The plan to open with spin was almost rewarded as a couple of shots fell into the gaps early, before O, Moore (5-0-26-1) finally got the breakthrough he deserved. Tight bowling H. Forshaw (0-16) and a threatening second spell from H. Lewis (0-23) didn't get what they deserved, and despite the teams best efforts Witchampton cruised to a nine-wicket win.
