Winton 3rd XI v Stalbridge Cricket Club Development XI on Sat 22 Aug 2020 at 1.30pm
Stalbridge Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report After nearly two weeks of rain, the clouds finally parted to allow Stalbridge Dev XI to continue their progress, with an emphatic victory on the road at Winton CC.
After losing the toss and being put to task in the field on a track offering nothing for the bowlers, Stalbridge kept things tight in the opening stages. Tight opening spells from the Captain (1st spell 4-0-10-0) and B. Pattle (5-0-15-0) did not allow Winton to take the game away in the opening ten. An all important breakthrough then came with a sharp slip catch from M. Bradbury off the bowling of R. Payne (5-0-25-1). Frustratingly, Stalbridge were unable to take another chance, with several near misses and half-chances in the next few overs, before lengthy spells from both spinners, O. Moore (5-0-25-0) and M. Bradbury (8-2-29-2), tied Winton back down in the middle overs, leaving them on just 132 going into the last ten. A blistering second spell from C. Mckinnon (7-0-31-3) then saw off Winton's middle order and Stalbridge looked to be pinning their opposition for a low total. Enter the number eight batsman, who set himself the task of ruining the figures of the returning openers (2nd spells - J Guthrie 4-0-47-2; B Pattle 2-0-21-0). After amassing 42 in, probably, 15 balls, he was successfully yorked in the final over as Winton finished on 220.
Knowing that they needed to go big C. Moore (111*) and F. Wingate-Saul (35) put on a rapid stand of 75 in just 12 overs for the first wicket. After M. Bradbury (0) fell to a suspected doosra, E. Pattle steadied to ship with the chairman as Stalbridge reached 106 before Ed fell in the last over before drinks. The chairman and the vice-captain then put on one of the all time great Stalbridge partnerships for the 4th wicket, with an unbroken 117 between them as Colin made his century and Rob passed fifty - for the second time this season - in what is become a tense battle at the top of the Dev XI run charts.
Another great result places Stalbridge Dev XI 2nd in the table going into matchday 5, ten points behind Marnhull. Away at Chesilborne next.
