Match report On a scorching hot day, we began proceedings with a minute's silence for Dorset cricket and club legend Clive Moore, who sadly passed away earlier in the week. For once, Si lost the toss and we found ourselves fielding first for the first time since the second game of the season at Blandford (14th May!). Poole got off to a bit of a flier, with little margin for error for bowlers on a decent wicket and fast outfield. 68 quick runs were added for the first wicket, until Dikey and H, the first and second change bowlers, were able to exert some control and build some pressure. Dikey took the first wicket, George taking a good catch at deep mid-wicket. Although we managed to regain some control of the run rate, their rapid start and the fact we struggled to take further wickets meant that Poole were still in control. Oscar Moore bowled an impressive spell in the circumstances, with a few beauties that turned and beat the bat, and he picked up the second wicket by bowling their other opener behind his legs. Dikey returned from the other end for a second spell and bowled well to pick up 4 wickets at an economy rate of under 4, Ed picked up a couple of late wickets, and H took a good caught and bowled as Poole ended their innings on a healthy 260 for 8.

A good start was imperative, and although we lost Ferg early, a good partnership developed between Wiz and Colin, with Col particularly quick onto the short ball. They added 68 until Col was bowled for a decent 29, bringing George to the crease. There were loose balls on offer, but it was difficult to score when the ball was dug in back of a length, which the Poole bowlers eventually realised. Wiz went for an excellent 51 with the score at 119, and although the required rate had crept up, it was not out of the question with the large, lightning-fast outfield. George carried on where he left off last week, and was only out as he looked to up the run rate in a push for victory, eventually stumped for 64. There were contributions from Dikey (23) who managed to pull a hamstring, resulting in Ferg having to run for him, and Steve (15). We couldn't quite get there in the end, but our final score meant we picked up the 3 bonus points on offer, and a decent return of 12 points overall. A late finish for this one of 8:45pm, but an enjoyable day nevertheless!
